There is something magical about stepping into New Zealand’s native bush and discovering the tiny, hidden worlds beneath our feet. This exhibition is a window into the world of fungi. Nature’s quiet achievers. Captured through macro photography in their most detailed, vivid, and unexpected forms.
I’m fascinated by the small things, the fine ridges of gills, the freckles and spots across waxy, gooey, and dewy caps, and the eye-catching colours in the undergrowth. Each beautifully bizarre fungus, full of character, presents a world of its own.
I get excited when I find tiny insects living on the fungi, spiders, slugs, slaters, and snails going about their lives on something I might have otherwise walked straight past. It’s a subtle reminder of just how alive and connected the forest floor really is.
Through this work, I hope to share a glimpse into the magical world of fungi that thrives all around our country. These images invite you to look closer, slow down, and appreciate the beauty in the small, unexpected corners of the bush.
