My work is the result of time spent playing with ink, graphite, and paint, with the simple intention of enjoying myself, and engaging with the materials in interesting ways. Each drawing is entirely unplanned, and in each moment, I think only about the mark I am currently making. While I often start with uncontrolled, expressive movements, as I continue to draw, the marks I make become more and more intentional until the drawing feels ‘complete.’

I began this work as a way to give myself a sense of personal freedom while living in a world that feels at the same time both chaotic and rigid. Being able to produce something unique every day through an intuitive process that is both entirely under my control and entirely unpredictable helps me balance my desire for a sense of autonomy and freedom with the chaos and unpredictability of my surroundings, accepting that nothing I do will be perfect, it will always be influenced by external factors, yet there is still value to be found within those imperfections, and my decisions are always mine to make.
