Bridget Gowan is a multi-disciplinary artist, maker and creative based in the Manawatū. Her work is layered, contemplative, nostalgic, and often inspired by nature. She includes reuse, recycling and repurposing in her work, with a focus on making the mundane or discarded beautiful.

These works show my passion and love for animals and nature. I have loved nature from a young age and have always taken interest in animals, insects and all things living.
My collection of Pūrerehua represents my interest in butterflies and shows how we can capture nature’s beauty without harming it.

Born to Create: “Catalyst for Change” is not only an exhibition but a transformative journey into the stories of resilient women who defied societal norms.
Through a series of vibrant portraits, the exhibition showcases influential women who challenged societal norms, shifting paradigms in society. By liberating thoughts and encouraging authenticity, these women paved the way for greater freedom of expression. The exhibition goes beyond a mere tribute; it is an educational tool, introducing the remarkable achievements of these influential women to a wider audience.

The artwork in this exhibition has all been made by Shaista Neek Qadam.
Shaista likes to use water colour, paint, pencil colours and oil pastel colours to her art works. For Shaista art means beauty and these paintings portray the beauty of nature and humanity.

I have always loved to create & have spent my life exploring a range of different media. I am both a Jeweller & Leadlighter by trade, but love to explore a wide range of activities including pottery & ceramics, leatherwork, fabric art, resin, sculpture & metalwork, to name a few.
I like to make things that are quirky & rustic & I’m always amazed by the way my pieces evolve as I work on them.

Manawatū based artist Moodymiss (Sarah Moody) focuses on creating works that capture character and bring a smile to your face. Having grown up between England, Zimbabwe and then New Zealand she pulls her inspiration from these locations and their respected flora and fauna.
 
Her love of dogs was further added to by spending time on her grandparent’s farm in Zimbabwe where there were 9 farm dogs to run around with (a dream for a dog obsessed kid).

Rehua is intimately entwined with the season of raumati (summer), with Te Waru o Rehua revealing its brilliance when the warmth takes hold. Rehua, a whetū and an atua who resides in one of the highest realms once bestowed gifts of manu upon Tāne. These Manu a Rehua inspired my interpretations embodied in kōwhaiwhai, capturing the movement and dynamic essence of each of these taonga.

The conceptual framework for this body of work is a collection on vessels I have created from my diversified art practices.
The timeless vessel form is a hollow receptacle, used for the storage of liquids, food and objects.
The ‘vessel form’ offers a blank canvas to apply stimulating variations of colour, the application of marks, to experiment with different mediums, textual patterns and various forms of decorations, to disguise, wrap, cut away and to visually record conceptual artistic impressions and metaphorical meanings.
The ’vessel form’ has expanded beyond its traditional function to become a contemporary, conceptual, sculptural, expressive art form.
