Homebodies
Homebodies brings together works by Manawatū artists Jennifer Baker and Alice Fennessy contemplating the domestic worlds of home and garden. These artworks shine light on the beauty and banality of still moments of life.

Alice Fennessy

.Alice Fennessy is an artist from Te Papaeoia/ Palmerston North. She uses drawing and painting to convey themes such as memory and everyday life. She is fascinated by the juxtapositions or dualities thrown up by pregnancy and motherhood, how these experiences can be simultaneously beautiful and ugly, ordinary and other, tender and excruciating. Her work explores these spaces through materials and compositions; disparate images from fleeting moments drawn together in stark tones on surfaces such as paper, silk or aluminium.

Jennifer Baker

Jennifer Baker is an artist living and working in Te Papaeoia / Palmerston North. She sees incredible beauty in everyday moments and objects, which in turn inspire her to paint. Through the medium of oil paint she expresses the transient beauty of life’s simple offerings – daisies picked from an unmowed lawn, wild strawberry flowers, and dandelions uprooted from along a fence line. She is interested in how flowers can express, paradoxically, both the exquisite joy and profound sadness of living.
